ALSEY [EBLEN]. Isaac EBLEN Will . . . May 1860 I therefore give and bequeath to my three daughters (viz) Nancy, wife of Hiram BARRY, Mary Jane, wife of Mathew ALLISON and Lucinda, wife of William McELWEE, all of the entire effects of my estate not herein before disposed of to be divided equally between them my said three daughters, one with the other daughters, one with the others. Sixthly, I direct and request that my slave named Alsey, be given to one of my three daughters at a valuation, without exposing her to public sale, provided that the valuation be at a price upon which they, my three daughters, can agree, each one with the others, but if no such valuation can be agreed upon, that she the said slave be sold and the proceeds thereof be divided equally between my three daughters, herein before named . . . EPHRAIM. John WILSON Will. . . Feb 1861 . . . Will . . . I will now State what I consider the negroe and horses worth which I give her. The negro I considered worth Seven hundred dollars and the horses from Eighty to a hundred dollars I this however I make this exception in behalf of my negro man Ephraim in as much as he has been a faithful Servant to me I wish to give him the liberty to choose among my children which he would prefer living with and if in case they wish to become his owner and my legatees fail to agree as to his value then a majority of them and my Executors are to select some suitable and disinterested person to value him and after he shall have been valued then the one whom he selects to be charged with his value placed upon him in that event he is to have the liberty to select the other person who he like to life with and who will take him at the value placed upon him and I leave it as my wish and desire if in case he passes into the possession of any one of my children and it should so happen that it might not suit them to keep him for them to give him the same privelidge of choosing his master as I have done. However as it is now impossible for me to know what would conduce most to the interest of my children or what might comfort best to their wishes in relation to my estate at the time herein Specified for distribution I hereby allow them or a majority of them to addopt such mode of Settlement as they in their Judgment may choose conducive to the interest of all concerned and if they elect to to (sic) keep the property instead of selling it they are at liberty to do so and have it partitioned according to the principals of equality and in case of any disagreement between them in relation to the value of any Species of property then the same to be settled by disinterested persons Selected for that purpose and upon a division by partition . . .
