Born in Tennessee ca 1794; son of Joseph and Nancy CARTER; exact date and place of birth and extent of schooling not determined. Married but name of wife and date and place of marriage not found; children--Nancy, John, Richard, James, Jane, Ruth E., Samuel C., Marquis L., Polly, General T., Frances M., and Sarah M. Engaged in farming at Lenoir, then in Roane, now in Loudon County. Justice of the peace; election inspector.
