Sterling T. TURNER (1813-1863)
HOUSE, 32nd General Assembly, 1857-59; representing Roane County; Democrat. Born in Roane County Nov. 11, 1813; son of John and Sarah (TALLEY) TURNER. Extent of schooling not determined. Married in Roane County Dec. 24, 1833, to Esther ERWIN; one daughter--Sarah C. Engaged in farming at Erie, then in Roane but later included within Loudon County. A director in the Branch Bank of Tennessee, Athens, McMinn County. Sheriff of Roane County, 1850-56. In confederate army; organized Capt. Sterling T. TURNER's Company, later Co. F, 43rd Tenn. Inf.; enrolled as capt. of company Oct. 9, 1861 in Roane County; killed in action at Vicksburg, Miss., May 22, 1863; place of burial not recorded.
