John HOPE (1799-1829)
HOUSE, 16th and 17th General Assemblies 1825-29; representing Roane and Morgan Counties. Born Sept. 16, 1799, in portion of Knox County soon to be included in Roane County; son of James and Bathsheba (WALKER) HOPE. Extent of schooling not indicated; studied law. Unmarried. Admitted to Roane County bar, 1823. Served three months with army on Cherokee agency duty, Oct. 17 to Dec. 17, 1818. Member Baptist Church. Died of yellow fever in New Orleans, La., Aug. 29, 1829; buried at that place.
