Lewis Marshall WESTER (1823-?)
HOUSE, 37th and 38th General Assemblies, 1871-75; representing Roane County; SENATE, 40th General Assembly, 1877-79; representing counties of Roane, Campbell, Cumberland, Fentress, Morgan, Overton, Putnam, Scott, and White; Republican. Born, probably at Kingston, Roane County, June 28, 1823; son of Daniel and Elizabeth (LLOYD) WESTER. Extent of schooling not stated. Married three times: first, Oct. 24, 1841, to Sarah HAMIL; she died in 1848; leaving four children--Rachel, J.M., Sarah, and Josephine Mariah; second marriage, date not indicated, to Catherine E. YOST; three children by this marriage--Mary, Katie, and Margaret C.; third marriage to Martha Brown SMITH; no children named. Engaged in farming with home at Kingston, Roane County, lived there all life except for residence in Texas, 1851. Delegate to East Tennessee Union Convention held at Knoxville, Knox County, May 30, 31, 1861; unsuccessful candidate for legislature, 1908, on Indexpendent ticket. In Mexican War; 1st lt., Co. C, 4th Tenn. Inf.; in Union Army; enrolled as capt. of Co. G, 1st Tenn. Inf. U.S.A., at Kingston Aug. 9, 1861; resigned because of ill health Nov. 13, 1862. Member Methodist Episcopal Church; Roane County Veterans Ass'n. Date of death and place of burial not determined. Brother of John Wesly WESTER, sometime member Tenn. General Assembly.
