George L. BURKE (1856-1940)
HOUSE, 45th General Assembly, 1887-89; representing Roane County; Republican. Born in McMinn County in 1856; son of the Rev. H.H. and Sophia M. BURKE. Extent of schooling not described; studied law. Was married but name of wife and date and place of marriage not indicated; no children listed as survivors. Practiced law at Kingston, Roane County; one of organizers of Kingston Bank and Trust Co., and served as its president for several years; in 1897 became general manager of Harriman and Northwestern Railroad at which time he removed to Harriman, Roane County, to be near work; in 1910 removed to Muskogee, Okla., and in 1914 moved to Sapulpa, Creek County, Okla. While still in Roane County was judge of the 4th Judicial Circuit of Tennessee, 1903-09. Member Union Lodge No. 38, Free and Accepted Masons. Died at Sapulpa, June 17, 1940; place of burial not listed.
