Ira Alonzo DAIL (1851-1916)

HOUSE, 46th General Assembly, 1st sess., Jan. 7 - May 7, 1889; apparently resigned for vacancy was filled by james W. CROWDER, 1893-95; representing Roane County in both Assemblies; Republican. Born in Knox County Feb. 18, 1851; son of Harvey and Mary (SMITH) DAIL. Attended elementary and secondary schools of Knox County; East Tennessee University, soon to become University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Knox County; studied medicine in Grainger County. Married at Lenoir, Roane County, c. 1883, to Mary Louise FELIPE, native of Charleston, S.C., daughter of Joseph and Anna (KIGGINS) FELIPE; children--John Alonzo, Inez Estelle, Edna Louise, Willie Barkley, Owenby Jay Hodges, Gladys Alria, Nellie Marie, Cora Irene, and Edward Velphian. Began practice of in Grainger County at age of twenty-five; practiced in Texas for time; returned to Tennessee, c. 1878, and settled Roane County near Lenoir where he practiced profession until death. President of medical pension board at Rockwood, Roane County. Member Methodist Episcopal Church; Indexpendent Order of Odd Fellows. Died at Lenoir, Oct. 9, 1916; buried in cemetery, at Oral, Roane County.
