Robert Patterson EATON (1835-1905)
SENATE, 35th General Assembly, 1867-69; representing Roane and Knox counties; HOUSE, 46th General Assembly, 1889-91; representing Loudon and Knox counties; Republican. Born in Grainger County, July 31, 1835; one source gives birthplace as Russellville, Jefferson County; son of Andrew Chamberlain and Susanna McBride (DONALDSON) EATON. Attended schools of Grainger County; began study of medicine in 1856. Married Oct. 14, 1859, to Cornelia W. BOYD, of Grainger County; children--Andrew Boyd, Laura, Sarah Florence, Susan, Robert Patterson, Jr., Julia T., and Minnie. Began practice of medicine, making home at Eaton's Crossroads, originally in Roane County but included in Loudon County after 1870; appointed, 1868, a trustee of East Tenn. University; member board trustees of University of Tennessee, 1883-84; Postmaster at Eaton's Crossroads, 1891. Member Presbyterian Church. Died at Eaton's Crossroads Mar. 20, 1905; buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Father of Andrew Boyd EATON, sometime member Tenn. General Assembly.
