Austin Letheridge GREEN (1811-?)
HOUSE, 33rd General Assembly, 1859-61; representing Roane County. Opposition Party, Whig earlier. Born in Pittsylvania County, Va., in 1811; son of Thomas and Kiziah (AVERY) GREEN. Extent of schooling and time of removal to Tennessee not found. First married in Roane County to Delia CROW; date of marriage not found but oldest son, Henry Pierce, was born c.1839; four additional children by this marriage--Katherine, William C., Leonidas and Rebecca; second marriage, date and place not indicated to Emily LIGGETT; children of this marriage--Jennie, Willis, Austin Avery, John B., and Charles W. Described as a farmer and pioneer with post office address Kingston, Roane County; began career as secretary, county land assessor and tax collector; one of first steamboat captains to ply Tennessee River. County court clerk, 1840-60. Delegate to East Tennessee Union Convention at Knoxville, Knox County, May 30, 31, 1861. Died at undetermined date after Oct. 8, 1881; place of burial not stated.
