Elbert Doran SMITH (1877-1945)
HOUSE, 63rd General Assembly, 1923-25; representing Roane County; Democrat. Born in Grayson County, Va., Mar. 25, 1877; son of William Wiley and Mary (MONTGOMERY) SMITH. Extent of schooling not stated. Married in Roane County Nov. 25, 1914, to Nell FLEMING, daughter of I.G. FLEMING; children--James Doran, Willie Frances, Jack, William, Louis, and Dick. Engaged in farming until Watts Bar Dam was built; removed to Rockwood, Roane County; stockholder in Rockwood Bank and Trust Co. Justice of the peace and member of the county court thirty-two years. Director of Citizens Service Corp. in 1942. Died at Rockwood Jan. 16, 1945; buried in family plot, Winton Chapel Cemetery, near Rockwood.
