John Wesly WESTER (1805-1874)
HOUSE, 24th and 27th General Assemblies, 1841-43, 1847-49; representing Roane and Knox Counties in 24th, Roane alone in 27th; SENATE, 29th and 34th (Confederate) General Assemblies, 1851-53, 1861-63; representing counties of Roane, Anderson, Campbell, and Morgan in 29th, Roane and Knox in 34th. Born in Tennessee Jan. 2, 1805; son of Daniel and Elizabeth (LLOYD) WESTER; exact place of birth and extent of schooling not determined; studied medicine. First married Mar. 26, 1836, to Mary Jane BROWN, daughter of Gen. John and Mary M. (ALLISON) BROWN--three daughters by this marriage--Rachael, Mary J., and Sarah BROWN; second marriage in 1844 to Catherine Jane ALLISON, daughter of Uriah and Nancy Clark (COX) ALLISON; nine children by second marriage--Ephraim Foster, Josephine M., John M., Catherine Anne, Alice, Adelaide V., Edith Mae, Margaret Hamilton, and Annie Maude. Practiced medicine at Kingston, Roane County; moved, c.1865, to plantation of wife's father on South West Point near Kingston. Delegate to East Tennessee Union Convention which met at Knoxville, Knox County, May 30, 31, 1861. Dated in 1874; exact date of death and place of burial not indicated. Brother of Lewis Marshall WESTER, sometime member Tenn. General Assembly.
