Vote in Roane County in 1861 For Separation or No Separation

As you can see from the following numbers, Roane County, like much of East Tennessee was against succeeding from the Union. Only 454 voted for separation from the Union, while 1568 voted against succession. Like much of East Tennessee, Roane County was about two thirds Union and only a third Confederate during the Civil War. This is often a revelation to people who don't know about East Tennessee's unique history.
