ROCKWOOD TIMES, APRIL 17, 1947 - MISS M. OWINGS OF POST
Former teacher and widely known resident of Post Oak Community died suddenly Tuesday afternoon on the lawn at the home she shared many years with her cousin, Miss Delia Smith. She had gotten the lawn mower out and was preparing to cut the grass. Miss Smith had warned her the task was too strenuous for her heart condition, and had gone back into the house. Returning a short time later, she found Miss Owings lying lifeless on the ground.
Miss Owings was a member of a prominent Roane County Family. She was a cousin of Miss Alma Acuff and a relative of the Tarwater family. She taught for many years in the Rockwood School. She was a faithful and active member of the Post Oak Church, served as organist, and for a long period was teacher of the children's class in the Bible School.
Surviving are a brother, Roscoe C. Owings of Tulsa, Okla., a sister, Mrs. Ollie Roberts of Guthrie, Okla. Mr. Owings and wife are expected to arrive Thursday, but Mrs. Roberts is unable to make the trip.
Funeral services will be conducted at Post Oak Church Friday afternoon.
